Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Comprised of a collection of short stories and a full-length screenplay, this thesis is a demonstration of the author's progress as a writer. The stories are literary realism set in St. Louis, Missouri, particularly in the working class south side of the city. The screenplay is an adaptation of the later Theseus myths taking place years after the slaying of the Minotaur. Thematically, both the screenplay and the stories explore the concept of the antihero, with protagonists who are somewhat immoral, and the difficulty of finding the right romantic partner. In addition, the stories often focus on hourly jobs and the effect they have on people.
