Laurie Brooks: a coterie of plays and concepts

Laurie Brooks: A Coterie of Plays and Concepts aims to give a detailed look at the style, content, and contributions of the plays of Laurie Brooks to theatre and Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA). The thesis also focuses on the relationship between Brooks, Jeff Church, and the Coterie Theatre, in Kansas City, Missouri. I held interviews with not only Laurie Brooks, TYA playwright and author, but also theatre artists around Kansas City. Those interviews included Jeff Church, Artistic Director of the Coterie Theatre, Theodore Swetz, the Patricia McIlrath Endowed Chair in Theatre Arts and Acting Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Meghann Henry, the Education Director at the Coterie Theatre, Sam Cordes, a Kansas City actor who has performed in three Brooks productions, and Leigh Miller, an Actor/Director from Colorado who has now worked on three productions of Brook's The Wrestling Season. Through these interviews and additional research I was able to address the connection and importance of TYA and education.
