Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis study was designed to explain natural seeps of hydrogen gas. Ordinarily H2 occurrences are regarded to be product of the process of serpentinization. However other sources or explanation may exist for the natural hydrogen gas seeps. For example Zhang et al. (2005) concluded that hydrogen gas occurs within fluid inclusions contained by olivine crystals. In the present study the H2 content in olivine samples was investigated using optical microscopic and Raman spectroscopic analysis. The current study failed to confirm the occurrence of the hydrogen gas within fluid inclusions contained by olivine samples from USA, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Canada. Thus serpentinization remains as the best explanation for formation of low-temperature natural hydrogen seeps.
