Chapter Two discusses Eduardo Zalamea Borda's novel 4 anos a bordo de mi mismo (1934), a response to several vanguard movements from futurism and creationism to surrealism. Chapter Three analyzes Jose Felix Fuenmayor's early novels, Cosme (1927) and Una triste aventura de 14 sabios (1928). Both explore occult realities and constitute a radical stand against logic and reason. The former is mainly based on Jungian psychology; the latter on science fiction and metafiction. Chapter Four considers Freudian psychoanalytic theories in Jose Restrepo Jarmillo's La novela de los tres (1926), an early example of self-referential literature in Colombia.
