Other interesting trends were apparent although they did not reach statistical significance, partially because of the small number of participants resulting in low power values. These trends indicated that the stuttering group exhibits inter- and intra-hemispheric interferences as assessed by performance on the tapping tasks. On the Stroop tasks, both the stuttering and high-risk groups displayed faster responses compared to the control subjects. It was suggested that better performance in relatively complex tasks might be based in different speech motor control strategies that these groups may be thought to possess. Performance on the non-word repetition task was similar for all groups indicating that phonological and auditory memory may not be closely related to stuttering.
