This study is the first to define load transfer efficiency based on the load transferred through the load transfer device. The results presented in this research provide an explanation for the load transfer mechanism across a joint system when different interface conditions are considered. The proposed load transfer efficiency was found to be a more useful measure of joint performance. It captured the variations in efficiency that accompany changing geometries and interface conditions.
