Relationship functioning was defined at multiple levels of analysis, through self-perceptions of relationships, observers' ratings of romantic partner interactions, and measures of physiological responding during interactions. Results indicated that the two traditions of adult attachment were not interchangeable in how they predicted relationship functioning concurrently or across time.
