However, because of their planar geometry, they can be more easily fabricated and integrated into microanalysis systems through the use of microfabrication techniques. This thesis investigates the feasibility of using planar coils in NMR microspectroscopy. The sensitivity of planar coils is modeled and measured, and optimum coil sizes are determined for specific applications. Also, susceptibility effects, which limit spectral resolution caused by the coil and the sample container, are investigated.
