Reader-response theory, which seeks to understand the transaction between the reader, text, and context, guided the analysis of the data. Results showed that CARA was used in unique ways by each investigator to construct a flexible understanding of the domain of child abuse in varying forms, and therefore the user's transaction with the innovation is a crucial variable in evaluating innovations.
