The cultures share several traits with developing leaf cells (active cell division, low photosynthetic capacity, elevated respiration, a low ratio of RuBPcase(initial)/PEPcase which would be expected since the cultured cells are growing. This indicates that the photoautotrophic cell physiology is more comparable to that of developing leaf cells, rather than to that of mature leaf cells.","The specific activity of RuBPcase, measured immunologically, varies with time in culture, and this is not due to the presence of the RuBPcase inhibitor which is found in soybean plants in the dark. However if the photoautotrophic cells are given a dark period the inhibitor is present.
