The procedure involved ten steps and began with the completion of a job analysis. Next, a supervisory panel prepared test specifications and test development worksheets. An expert panel was then engaged in an item writing workshop and prepared test items appropriately sampling each job content domain. The test items were then submitted to three sequential review processes including a supervisory panel review, editorial review, and an expert panel review. Following the item review the supervisory panel arranged the test items into a pretest examination, selected a pretest panel, and pretested the selection examination. Based on the results of the pretest examination, the difficulty, discriminating power and distractor effectiveness of each test item was improved, when necessary, by the supervisory panel. Once the review of the test items was completed, the preparation of the selection examination into final test format, by the supervisory panel, concluded the content validation of the examination.","abstract_html":"The purpose of this study was to develop a model procedure for constructing a content valid personnel examination for use by public park and recreation agencies. Incumbent directors of parks and recreation scored significantly higher on the content valid selection examination than college seniors in business administration curricula. When college seniors in several parks and recreation administration curricula were contrasted with the business administration seniors, results indicated students with preparation in the recreation field performed significantly better on the examination. A third contrast between the incumbent park and recreation directors indicated that the incumbents scored significantly higher on the selection examination than parks and recreation seniors in general, and parks and recreation seniors with an administrative emphasis in their studies. Further analyses demonstrated that the difference between incumbent test scores and seniors in parks and recreation test scores could largely be attributed to differences in amount of formal college training. Additional revision and extensive testing is necessary in the further refinement of this instrument before its eventual application.","Made available in DSpace on 2014-12-16T04:26:06Z (GMT).
