Each structure comprised two nine-story, three-bay frames. Member dimensions corresponded to approximately one-fifteenth scale.","Symmetrical and asymmetrical arrangements of setbacks, relative to the center of the base, were selected for study. The test structures were subjected to simulated versions of the north-south component of the 1940 El Centro ground motion. Each structure was tested several times with the same base motion at different intensities. Measurements during the dynamic tests included displacements and accelerations at each level of the structure.","After completion of the dynamic tests, the structures were subjected to static lateral forces to check the results of limit analysis for lateral strength.","The dynamic response of the test structures was studied using a nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom model. The measured and calculated response of the setback structures was compared with the response of two similar uniform structures tested previously.
