Constitutive relations which follow from the static analysis for frictionless rope are used to study ropes loaded by their own weight and to study the dynamic response of wire ropes.","The dynamic behavior of wire rope is analyzed for small displacements about the static equilibrium position. It is shown that the longitudinal and torsional displacements are coupled to each other but not to the transverse displacements. It is further shown that transverse displacement in one plane is coupled to transverse displacement in the perpendicular plane.","Solutions for some initial value problems for suspended wire ropes are determined by means of a Laplace transform with a numerical inversion technique.
