This thesis attempts to address that claim by examining the identity crisis in France and its relationship to both Islamist and far-right radicalism. It argues that the lingering legacies of the Algerian War of Independence (1954-1962) have contributed greatly to the current identity crisis in France, especially with regards to the North African and Muslim communities, as well as the far-right.
