In addition, some studies have shown that trust can be established through the trustee’s personal reputation of integrity, or through structural assurance mechanisms such as social monitoring and sanctioning. Nonetheless, the relative importance of personal versus structural cues in trust judgement across cultures is not clear. The present thesis examined cultural differences in the relative importance of personal and structural trust cues in trust judgement in the socially and economically relevant context of e-commerce. Results from 4 studies revealed that Americans prefer using personal integrity in trust judgement, whereas Asians prefer structural cues (Studies 1 and 2). Furthermore, these cultural differences can be explained by relative prevalence of the two types of agency beliefs, individual versus group agency across cultures (Studies 3 and 4).","Item marked as restricted to the 'Administrator' Group (id=1) by William Ingram (wingram2@illinois.edu) on 2011-08-26T15:35:35Z Item is restricted until 2013-08-26T15:35:26Z","Item reinstated by Sarah Shreeves (sshreeve@illinois.edu) on 2013-08-27T10:00:26Z Item was in collections: University of Illinois Dissertations and Theses (ID: 204) Dissertations and Theses - Psychology (ID: 590) No. of bitstreams: 8 Kwan_Letty.pdf.txt: 84825 bytes, checksum: 52fba1ca26263c1d795b96138d306f51 (MD5) Kwan_Letty.pdf: 26796107 bytes, checksum: 07aafa95a257b7371447d9a2c6df749d (MD5) license.txt: 4058 bytes, checksum: 4f5527570ec556875127d31b1b9183b1 (MD5) Kwan_Letty.docx: 502004 bytes, checksum: b53145cf4d2588e04483a9a7558a584e (MD5) 1_Kwan_Letty.docx: 502004 bytes, checksum: b53145cf4d2588e04483a9a7558a584e (MD5) 2_Kwan_Letty.docx: 502004 bytes, checksum: b53145cf4d2588e04483a9a7558a584e (MD5) 3_Kwan_Letty.docx: 502004 bytes, checksum: b53145cf4d2588e04483a9a7558a584e (MD5) 4_Kwan_Letty.docx: 502004 bytes, checksum: b53145cf4d2588e04483a9a7558a584e (MD5)","Item released from any restrictions by Sarah Shreeves (sshreeve@illinois.edu) on 2013-08-27T10:00:26Z"]},{"key":"dc:title","label":"Title","values":["Agency beliefs mediate trust across cultures in e-commerce"]}]}],"canonical_facts":{"dc:contributor":["Hong, Ying-Yi","Chiu, Chi-Yue","White, Tiffany B.","Cohen, Dov","Shavitt, Sharon"],"dc:creator":["Kwan, Letty Y."],"dc:date":["2011-08-26T15:33:39Z","2013-08-27T10:00:26Z","2011-08"],"dc:description":["Item withdrawn by Mark Zulauf (zulauf@illinois.edu) on 2011-07-13T20:06:56Z Item was in collections: University of Illinois Theses & Dissertations (ID: 1) No. of bitstreams: 3 Kwan_Letty.pdf: 27702767 bytes, checksum: 49d236b9c3eea71eb680140975fe2869 (MD5) Kwan_Letty.docx: 501701 bytes, checksum: 08652c91ba04c3d5bec02ab38cdccd2f (MD5) Kwan_Letty.pdf: 27829489 bytes, checksum: 36c62b7bbd75e351b8dbfae457c252fb (MD5)","Made available in DSpace on 2011-08-26T15:33:39Z (GMT).
