Once obtained, the postmodern perspective is attested in Richard Schechner's theories on postmodern performance. Schechner's arguments involve the embryo of further discussion on Artaud and his theatre. For the first step of deconstructing Artaud's Theater of Cruelty, Chapter Two probes the theories of structuralism and semiotics and explores Michael Kirby's formalist theatre as an expedient exemplar. The discussion on Joseph Chaikin's Open Theatre foregrounds some interests of poststructuralism and paves the way to deconstruction of Antonin Artaud. Chapter Three elaborates the poststructuralist theory as a champion of postmodernism.
