The investigator developed computer-based templates designed to display information and data from and about higher education music position vacancy announcements regarding the number and nature of positions, and the month of publication, for the years 1990-93. Primary and ancillary duties related to the positions were addressed for the year 1992-93. All music areas included: applied music; conducting; academic music; music education; vocational-technical-commercial aspects of music in higher education; and music administration. A frequency pattern of occurrence and position availability was established for the years studied, but the investigator concluded that there was no way to predict the appearance of a particular position announcement. All announcements listed myriad duties in addition to a professional specialization. Recommendations for further study include the gathering of related geographic data and a comparison with the number of people potentially entering these fields to develop a realistic supply and demand statement.","abstract_html":"The purpose of the study was to provide information beneficial to persons seeking higher education music positions.
