To this end, a computer-based architecture, formed by the unification of reasoning techniques, extensions of current object-oriented database technology, and a team coordination methodology has been developed. This architecture has been implemented as a system called the Intelligent Design Environment for Engineering Automation (IDEEA). For reasoning, IDEEA supports the development of rich product models that interleave declarative and procedural forms of knowledge and data within a seamless environment.
