Methods for reasoning about usefulness of knowledge intended to support design are developed, and two measures of usefulness are introduced: flexibility and coherence of the knowledge.","A clearer understanding on the part of design tool developers of how a tool will be used in design (that is, how engineers do design) will lead to better fit between design tools and the needs of decision-makers.
