Both compositions demonstrate use of proportions in overall formal planning and in the construction of subsections.","The middle section of \"Threnody\" provides a self-contained structure in which Penderecki's use of canon and palindrome may be seen. This section also provides opportunity to examine the composer's organization of textures, durations, dynamics, articulations, pitches and extended playing techniques.
