The fatty acid and aldehyde composition of the cells was observed to be highly influenced by that of the lipid supplement and incorporation of (1-$\\sp{14}$C) oleic acid indicated a predominant labeling of the membranes, most of the label being recovered during extraction of the fatty acid and aldehyde fractions.","S. sucromutans, isolated as the predominant ruminal species capable of degrading methoxy substituents of monoaromatic compounds derived from lignin, was shown to incorporate label from chemically synthesized O- (methyl-$\\sp{14}$C) vanillate exclusively in the methyl group of acetate.
