This thesis focuses on unimolecular solid state reactions. High pressure spectroscopic techniques are used in studies of isomerization reactions in organometallic copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes. Electronic absorption spectroscopy is used to assess configuration and changes in configuration induced by pressure. Pathways for solid state isomerizations reactions are discussed. Studies of polycrystalline complexes and of some of the complexes as dopants in polymeric media are presented.
