In Exp. 1, P heifers possessed improved (P $$.10) were observed with fecal, urinary and total N excretion and amount of N absorbed. Nitrogen retained (% of intake and g/d) was higher (P $<$.05) in P ewe lambs compared to control ewe lambs. Plasma insulin and insulin-like growth factor I concentrations were 99.0% and 28.7% higher (P $<$.05) in P ewe lambs, respectively.
