In the final section of the monograph I argue that Stabler's composition functions as a metaphor for communication.","The enigmatic quality of the score generates a myriad of problems--so many, in fact, that it cannot be realized as the composer intended. Similarly, the work requires a high degree of involvement on the part of the players, who must realize the work and interact with each other both before and during a performance; the score's enigmatic character precludes this involvement as well. Therefore, with Stabler's approval, I have constructed a performance edition of Shadows of Wild Pain (located in the Appendices) which provides the details and elaboration necessary to an accurate rendering of the composition.","Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T12:08:09Z (GMT).
