The representation of women in coaching positions decreased. Administrators argued that the increased demand for coaches exhausted the supply of qualified women. However, the study suggests that as men entered the labor queue for jobs in women's sport, deep-seated beliefs in sex differences influenced many administrators to place men at the top of this queue. Furthermore, the merging of men and women's programs and the division between revenue and non-revenue sport created many structural barriers for women in the athletic association.
