Utilizing mainly primary source materials, Chapter II describes Bowman's early background, family life, musical influences, and training. A chronological description of Bowman's professional career while he was in the military service comprises Chapter III. Chapter IV outlines many of Bowman's teaching methods and philosophies. Eight of his former euphonium students, all of whom are also professional euphoniumists, were interviewed, and the results are compiled in this chapter. Chapter V delves into how Bowman affected the design and manufacture of several models of euphoniums, including the Yamaha, Hirsbrunner, Marzan, and Willson euphoniums. A description of Bowman's involvement in the international organization for tuba and euphonium players, known as T.U.B.A., is presented in Chapter VI. Chapter VII contains information concerning the genesis and popularization of euphonium literature that was a direct result of Bowman's efforts or prominence as a musical artist. A summary of the study is contained in Chapter VIII, as are conclusions and suggestions for further study. A section of appendices is located just before the bibliography, which concludes the study.","Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T12:00:48Z (GMT).
