It has three research questions. First, what kind of citizen does the high school social studies and science standards used in West Virginia seek to create? Second, what kinds of political and economic ideologies are represented in the standards used? Finally, do the standards used reflect concepts found in global citizenship education? The study uses Critical Discourse Analysis following the framework of Mullet (2018), the methods of Gee (2011, 2014b), and employs concept coding. The study found that the standards used in West Virginia reflect traditional liberalism and classical republicanism with an emphasis on learning how to effectively contribute to a capitalist society upholding what is considered to be traditional American values as determined by the state."]},{"key":"dc:format","label":"Dc Format","values":["application/pdf"]},{"key":"dc:title","label":"Title","values":["Global citizenship education in the mountain state: A critical discourse analysis of West Virginia’s high school science and social studies curriculum standards"]}]}],"canonical_facts":{"dc:contributor":["Witt , Allison","Pak, Yoon","Herrera , Linda","Lindgren, Samantha"],"dc:creator":["Cunningham, Cody Jack"],"dc:date":["2024-11-22","2024-12"],"dc:description":["Submission original under an indefinite embargo labeled 'Open Access'.
