The purposes of this dissertation is to: (1) understand the decision-making process to detrack, (2) identify and overcome challenges to the district, and (3) explore the opportunities that emerged as a result of detracking. Through the theoretical framework of Critical Race Theory (CRT), I conducted an interview case study of a high school principal of a small, unit district in central Illinois, seeking to address and analyze these research questions.
