Across structure, function, dynamics, and variability, the brain displays a remarkable ability to reconfigure itself, capable of flexibly modifying information processing to facilitate intelligent behavior. This dissertation investigates the relationship between neural flexibility and intelligence, testing key predictions made by the Network Neuroscience Theory of Intelligence. The background review (Chapter \\ref{chap0}) and four empirical studies reported in this document elucidate the neurobiology of human intelligence in terms of organization and flexibility across multiple neurobiological systems, including individual differences in functional network connectivity (Chapter \\ref{chap1}), functional network dynamics (Chapter \\ref{chap3}), structural network organization (Chapter \\ref{chap2}), and BOLD variability (Chapter \\ref{chap5}). The findings reported in this dissertation further elucidate the neurobiology of human intelligence, and motivate a greater need for future neuroscience theories of intelligence that account for individual differences in cognition in terms of neural flexibility."]},{"key":"dc:format","label":"Dc Format","values":["application/pdf"]},{"key":"dc:title","label":"Title","values":["Network dynamics of human intelligence"]}]}],"canonical_facts":{"dc:contributor":["Barbey, Aron K","Sutton, Bradley P","Kojeyo, Oluwasanmi O","Culpepper, Steven A"],"dc:creator":["Anderson, Evan Dean"],"dc:date":["2022-12","2022-11-11"],"dc:description":["Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2024-12-01","The student, Evan Anderson, accepted the attached license on 2022-10-25 at 11:38.","The student, Evan Anderson, submitted this Dissertation for approval on 2022-10-25 at 12:02.","This Dissertation was approved for publication on 2022-11-11 at 14:14.","DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #18498 on 2023-04-12 at 08:10:27","The central thesis of this dissertation is that mechanisms for neural flexibility play a central role in general intelligence.
