Henry Du Mont served as a sous-maître (deputy music director) in Louis XIV’s Chapelle Royale from 1663 to 1683. The first part of this study addresses the political, economic, religious, educational and musical scene of mid-seventeenth century France, along with aspects of the Chapelle Royale and its music during Louis’ reign. Background information on Du Mont’s early life and education is also given, together with modern transcriptions of the two motets. Each motet calls for a five-part string ensemble, a five or six-part solo choir, and five-part large chorus and basso continuo, which has been realized for organ. Both motets are well within the musical capabilities of most college choirs, and of good church and community choirs. It is intended that these editions will be made available to the public through a domestic publisher.","Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2021-05-01","The student, Norman Te Slaa, accepted the attached license on 2019-04-10 at 14:27.","The student, Norman Te Slaa, submitted this Dissertation for approval on 2019-04-10 at 14:39.","This Dissertation was approved for publication on 2019-04-11 at 17:17.","DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #13549 on 2019-08-22 at 15:05:44"]},{"key":"dc:format","label":"Dc Format","values":["application/pdf"]},{"key":"dc:title","label":"Title","values":["A modern edition and guide to motet O mysterium venerabile and motet Sacris solemniis by Henry Du Mont (1610-1684)"]}]}],"canonical_facts":{"dc:contributor":["Solya, Andrea","Megill, Andrew","Bashford, Christina","Temperley, Nicholas"],"dc:creator":["Te Slaa, Norman G."],"dc:date":["2019-08-23T20:35:49Z","2021-08-24T09:15:24Z","2019-04-11","2019-05"],"dc:description":["Made available in DSpace on 2019-08-23T20:35:49Z (GMT).
