Abstract
dc:descriptionTo the Marrow is a hybrid collection of poetry and essays focusing on animalization, dehumanization, loss, love, and freedom. At the heart of the collection is a woman striving to assert herself in a relationship that has become restrictive and unbalanced. This effort causes her to form connections between herself and animals, objects, the natural world, and the volatile yet controllable element of fire. Through this, my speaker also navigates a sense of displacement: from her human identity, from the complicated comfort and threat of her lover, and from the metaphorical and literal enclosures that once defined her existence.
