Seven never-married women between the ages of 39 and 60 participated in this study. During individual, in-depth personal interviews which were audio-taped, the women described their perceptions and experiences as never-married childless women. Five common themes were extrapolated from the data using a thematic analysis procedure devised by Colaizzi (1978).
