This is a paradox because, in his best works, Kipling shows a strong affinity for Modernist issues as demonstrated in his concern for the themes of isolation and abandonment, and the quest for healing, and in his use of indeterminate narrative structure. The dichotomies in his life and work have also resulted in profound misunderstandings of his writings.
