Methods of Analyzing the Performance of Induction Machines.

The modeling of induction machines during transient conditions, in order to analyze their effects on the generating station auxiliaries systems, poses some complications for the power system engineer. One concern is establishing realistic motor data for use in modeling large motors. The second is to assure that the models used are sufficiently accurate to faithfully predict the performance of the machine in the field.In this thesis the effects of across-the-line starting of induction machines are analyzed. First, a method of estimating the machine parameters from general data submitted by the manufacture is developed. Next, models are developed to analyze the machine during motor starting conditions. The analysis is performed by representing the machine in different degrees of complexity to determine what approximations are justified. The analysis begins by examining a system containing only one machine and is then extended to the consideration of multi-machine systems.
