Crystallographic Studies of Cation-Glucuronic Acid Interactions: Structures of Calcium-Bromide Glucuronate and Sodium Glucuronate.

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Calcium complexes of polysaccharides that contain D-glucuronate residues have been implicated in such biological processes as calcium storage, calcification, and calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion. In 1957, Farber, Schubert and Schuster investigated the binding of sodium, potassium, and calcium cations to chondroitin sulfate polyanions.
