Abstract
dc:description.abstractReference to diabetes mellitus dates back to about 3500 years to the Egyptians, who described a condition in which the victim, among other things, passed large amounts of sweet urine. It was not until 1921, with the discovery of insulin, that it was possible to control the disease. Medical science is still not able to cure this ancient affliction.
