Learning-Disabled Students' Noun Referent Skills in Original Narratives: A Pilot Study.
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIdentification of a student as learning--disabled requires an assessment of his written language (U.S. Office of Education, 1977, p. 42478). This requirement poses a problem for educators: while researchers have established that multiple-choice writing tests are not valid measures of writing ability (Braddock, Lloyd-Jones, & Schoer, 1963), only one standardized test (Hammill & Larsen, 1978) includes a reliable evaluation based upon the student's own original composition.
