In Vitro Polarization Evaluation of Carbon-Metal Galvanic Couples.

Abstract

Corrosion has long been recognized as a problem with synthetic, metallic materials for applications in biological environments. This is one of the main reasons type 316L stainless steel and Ti-6Al-4V ELI-grade alloy have emerged as two of the more widely used metallic biomaterials. In recent years with more and more use of metallic implants in patients of younger ages, the time interval over which the implants must function has doubled or tripled.
