Abstract

As a result of the research described in this thesis, programs for the analysis of nuclear data now function on both the Physics Department’s PRIME computer and the University of Alabama in Birmingham’s SIGMA VII computer located in the Ziegler Research Building. These programs are: SAMPO—a program for peak analysis, BEND—a program to determine the best fit to a functional form, GATEPULL—a program to determine the sequence of a gamma with another gamma or an electron in the decay of a specific radionuclide, and DRAW—a program to produce neat Zetaplot histograms of nuclear data. The appendices of this thesis provide program description and detailed instructions on the use of these programs as well as a description of the nuclear data acquisition and analysis techniques used at UNISOR (University Nuclear Isotope Separator at Oak Ridge) . Data from the first extensive study of the 194Pb decay to 194Tl were analyzed using these programs. Results of other recent UNISOR studies of 192Pb and 196Pb decays, internal conversion coefficients of the 194Pb decay, and properties of other muclei in this mass region are used to deduce properties of several levels of the 194Tl daughter.
