Context Effects in Sentence Comprehension With Schizophrenics.
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe process by which the meaning of individual words is determined in the context of a sentence is an important part of sentence comprehension and more generally communication. There are numerous words in the English language with two or more different meanings (i.e., polysemous words) and in fact, relatively common words with a single meaning are quite rare in any language. Assuming that for each dictionary meaning of a word there exists the potential for a corresponding lexical entry for each meaning, then on the average there would be more lexical entries for polysemous words.
