This technique, when applied to 151Eu (source) and EU2O3 (absorber) to determine their recoil-free fractions, produced internally consistent values for these parameters. However, verification of the values obtained was not easily accomplished due to the lack of literature for comparison. It has been the objective of the research reported here to make a series of absorbers which could be used to verify the validity of the simultaneous fitting method. The material chosen from which to make the absorbers must have its recoil-free fraction known to a high degree of precision.
