The Contribution of Semantic Structure to Retrieval From Episodic Memory.
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn his classic "7, plus or minus 2" paper, Miller (1956) introduced a term to describe what he thought people do when trying to memorize lists of words or numbers. He suggested that people "chunk" small bits of information into larger sets which bear some internal order or whose members share common characteristics, and in so doing implicitly increase their ability to recall large amounts of the designated information.
