N-vinylacrylamide was prepared by condensing two moles of acrylamide with one mole of acetaldehyde to give the intermediate, N,Nâ€™-ethylidenebisacrylamide, which was pyrolyzed at approximately 140Â°C, 20 mm. The N-vinylacrylamide was identified by NMR, IR, and elemental analysis. The spin decoupling technique was used to analyze the N-vinylacrylamide proton pattern which was complicated by isomerism.
