An experimental investigation of coloring matter in Canna Indica flowers

<p>The research was carried out for the purpose of isolating and identifying the coloring matter in flowers of the canna indica (canna lily) variety. It was done by extracting the pigment from flower petals with methanol, amyl alcohol, and other solvents, and crystallizing the pigment as a salt. Physical properties such as solubility, color reactions, spectra and others were examined for this pigment. Chemical properties and degradation products were also examined in order to identify the chemical structure of the pigment.</p>
