This subject intrigued authors interest, specially because of the growing gender equality in the world. Discussions on social responsibility has increased and knowledge and understanding has been forming a concept in companies’ mind within the society. In a literature review gender mainstreaming and social responsibility are carefully explained and its main theories presented. A brief review of both the shareholder’s theory and the stakeholder’s theory are clarified and also the recently new term that connects gender mainstreaming and social responsibility together, gendered social responsibility (GSR). The general idea of social responsibility originated in Bowen (1953) but it also uses impacts from Carroll (1979) and his theory of four-division corporate social responsibility (CSR) and for gender mainstreaming originating in UN Nations (1995) but also uses impacts from Testa (2012) and Scholz (2012). Furthermore, standards and regulations regarding social responsibility will be thoroughly examined.
