Preservice adapted physical education teachers' intentions toward assessment of students with disabilities in South Korea

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The purposes of the investigation were: (a) to determine preservice adapted physical education (APE) teachers’ opinions related to intentions; and (b) to determine if the theory of planned behavior predicts the preservice APE teachers’ intentions toward assessment of fundamental motor skills and patterns and physical and motor fitness of students with disabilities in South Korea. The participants were 326 purposely selected preservice APE teachers primarily in South Korea. A questionnaire was developed based on the theory of planned behavior guideline (Ajzen, 2006) and the Physical Educators’ Intention Toward Teaching Individuals with Disabilities-II (PEITID-II; Rizzo, So, & Tripp, 2007). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and exploratory factor analyses were performed to analyze the data using SPSS 24.0. Further, confirmatory factor analyses and structural equation model were performed to verify the theory of planned behavior model using AMOS 24.0. Based on the results, preservice APE teachers’ intentions were significantly affected by educational level and experience teaching students with disabilities. Further, the theory of planned behavior model fit to the data. Therefore, the theory of planned behavior model predicted preservice APE teachers’ intentions toward assessment.
