This research-based initiative provides historical context for the changing landscape of Italian governance, the training and employment of organists during Frescobaldi’s lifetime, and the impact of the Reformation on the Catholic church. Additionally, guidelines for historically-informed performance practices associated with the Fiori Musicali and an overview of the pedagogical content of the genres presented in the work are included.
