The relationship between diabetic control and self-concept

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This nonexperimental study examined the relationship between diabetic control and self-concept in insulin dependent diabetic adults. Fifty subjects completed the Demographic Data Profile, Criteria for Degree of Control of Diabetes, and the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale. The Spearman's rho correlation was used to determine a very weak inverse relationship between diabetic control and self-concept. A one-way analysis of variance revealed no significant (£~.05) difference between the means of the fair, poor, and very poor groups on the Physical Self and the Total Positive Scales of the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale. However, a significant difference was found between the three groups on the Personal Self Scale.
