Spielberger's (1966) state-trait anxiety theory was used as the theoretical framework for the study. The study was conducted in four family planning clinics located throughout a large metropolitan city in the southwest. The data were collected utilizing the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory developed by Spielberger, Gorsuch, and Lushene (1980). Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance. The .05 level of significance was used to accept or reject the hypothesis. The F value of the between group interaction was 5.28 with .E. = .031. Thus, the research hypothesis was confirmed.","abstract_html":"This quasi-experimental study investigated whether a difference in anxiety levels existed between women receiving routine counseling and those receiving routine counseling with sensation information prior to the insertion of an intrauterine device.
