Parity and mothers' knowledge of infant development

A descriptive, correlational, ex-post facto study assessed the level of knowledge of infant development of primiparous and multiparous mothers when the mothers' level of education was controlled. The conceptual framework of experiential learning was tested. The nonrandom sample of 54 mothers was comprised of first-time mothers and third- or subsequent-time mothers. The level of knowledge of infant development by mothers was measured via an Infant Development Assessment questionnaire and yielded scores for overall, motor, social, adaptive, and language infant development knowledge. The findings revealed no significant difference in total knowledge of infant development between the primiparous and multiparous mothers, except in the infant language development area.
